Dr Shrikrishna

 Pranayama & Meditation

A Retreat With Dr Shrikrishna Bhushan

3rd to 9th September 2010

at

Purelands Retreat Centre

Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery and Tibetan Centre

Eskdalemuir
Langholm

Dr Shrikrishna's retreats give yoga teachers and serious students of yoga an opportunity to experience a unique combination of yoga philosophy and yoga practice. He skillfully leads participants into meditative states through pranayama, yoga philosophy and inner enquiry.

The focus will be on developing the practice of Pranayama and how to use it for improving states of mindfulness in daily life.

Emphasis will be on experiencing the inner silence which comes from this practice. Theoretical, philosophical and technical aspects of pranayama will be discussed with this emphasis in mind.

Many of the pranayama and meditation techniques require sitting. Participants should have prior experience of sitting quietly for periods of at least 20-30 minutes.

Dr. Shrikrishna recommends a practise of asana during the retreat in addition to the everyday lessons to loosen physical tensions which can occur during longer phases of sitting and intense mental activity

This retreat will provide an environment for participants to cultivate and deepen their awareness and inner silence. The retreat is not intended as an opportunity for academic study or as relaxed vacation. Rather, participants come prepared to enjoy gradually increasing periods of silence, exploring in playful ways how to carry out the day's activities without speaking, and using this freedom from incessant talking and thinking to develop mindfulness.

Dr Shrikrishna Bhushan
Dr Shrikrishna was born to a father who was a close colleague of Swami Kuvulayanda, one of the foremost pioneers of modern yoga. Dr Shrikrishna grew up in an atmosphere saturated with yogic culture. He qualified as a
medical doctor and took a Ph.D. on the physiological effects of Pranayama at the prestigious All India Institute of Medicine.

After graduating, Dr Shrikrishna succeeded his father as Director of the Kaivalyadhama Institute of Yogic Health in Mumbai.,

In addition to Dr Shrikrishna's knowledge of medicine, physiology and yoga practice, he has an excellent mastery of Sanskrit and yogic literature, both ancient and modern, upon which he draws as an aid to conveying the deeper insights of yoga.

Dr Shrikrishna's emphasis is on AWARENESS and EXPERIENCE, rather than theoretical knowledge. This rare combination of experience, knowledge and skills gives a breadth and depth to his teaching, which is probably unique.

Dr Shrikrishna sees yoga as acting of two levels: as a science of health paving the way to positive health and personal development and as a facilitator for entry to transcendental transpersonal states. In recent years he retired from his position at the Kaivalydhama Institute to devote himself to his own Sadhana and teaching.

Shamanism and the Moon Cycles

7.30 - 9.30pm

Friday 10 September, Friday 8 October, Friday 5 November, Friday 3 December

This is an informal group open to all: people new to shamanism and experienced too. We will work with manifestation, using the attributes of each moon to bring focus to issues relevant to our lives at this time. The emphasis is on aligning our intention and clarifying what we each would like to focus on during this moon cycle.

We will work on clearing blocks and learn how to make a shamanic journey. Come along and experience the amazing transformative effects of a group process working in synergy with the flow of the moon, the gifts of the seasons and the teachings offered by each astrological sign.

Cost: £8.00

Creative Flow

 7.30 - 9.30pm

Friday 17 September, Friday 22 October, Friday 19 November, Friday 10 December

This monthly group has been created at the request of many to combine my training as an Artist with my training as a Shamanic Practitioner and provide the tools, encouragement and equipment to free creative expression.

This group is about fun, play and limitless possibilities. Its intention is restoring self-belief and abracadabra-ing the solar potential of each individual into the physical every-day living of this dream!  We will be working with the map of the sun signs and every month tapping into the creative opportunities of the season to support the evolution of everyone's creative potential.  Art and writing materials are at hand...

Inspired by Julia Cameron’s Artists Way and the studies I have made about how the sun signs can support the unfolding of our life purpose, this is a group to drop in on or come to regularly for anyone wanting to realise their sun-shine!

Cost: £8.00

Shamanism & the Archetypes

Saturday 28 August 2010
10.00 – 5.00pm

In this workshop we work with the archetypal realms - the Place of Power operating between the human and the spiritual.  We mix Jungian psychology with teachings from Don Miguel Ruiz (the author of The Four Agreements) and meet the archetypes through Shamanic journeying and creative play.

Bringing the archetypes into consciousness provides a platform for better understanding of our own natures.  Through uncovering the relationships we have with some of the archetypes we can begin to shine light on patterns that are recurring in our lives that are looking for healing.

This workshop will be an opportunity to step into the theatre of our souls and playfully engage with the characters we have set up and nudge them into a happier place.  Through individual, paired and group process we will appreciate the strength of archetypal dynamics and empower one another to make the small but precise changes which can have such an immense effect on the rest of our lives.

Let the play begin!

Cost: £50.00

Celtic New Year

Workshop and evening Fire walk

Saturday 30 October 2010
10.00 – 5.00pm    6.00 - 11.00 pm

Out with the old and in with the New!

Come and let go, shake out, move on!  All the bits that no longer serve you, bring them along for the biggest clearing out party of the year at Synergy.  Now is the time for it.  Traditionally,  the time of year when the veil is at its thinnest and the ancestors are at their closest there is the potential for so much healing and exchange of worldly confusion for spiritual truths.

We will explore how the Celts would have celebrated this time of year and tune into the Season and what it teaches us.  I will introduce some Shamanic rituals to honour  the ancestors and see the blessings in all that is behind us. We will use the technique of Shamanic journeying to do some happy cleaning work so that we can step out into the New cycle sparkling and clear, fertile ground for the visioning of the New dream - which we will give space to tune into too!

Come and celebrate with us!

Plus! Firewalk in the evening - venue to be confirmed.

Cost:  £50.00  /  £70.00
